Through the wall

Kosovo 1993: The 14-year-old Roma girl Nizaqete is taken out of the country by escape helpers. Her family has been caught between all fronts because of the growing tensions between Albanians and Serbs; now she hopes for a safe life in Germany. What the Bislimis do not know: 13 years of insecurity lie ahead of them, a life threatened daily by deportation. In a country where the education and income of the parents play a decisive role in determining the educational opportunities of the children, Nizaqete gives the lie to all the statistics. From the asylum seekers' home, she embarks on an extraordinary career - she decides to become a lawyer. Only when she completes her traineeship in the civil service is the Bislimi family granted right of residence in Germany.
