When Caroline learns that her mother, thought dead, is still alive, she embarks on a journey into the unknown to find her mother.
Gregor's world is also shaken when he inherits the urn containing the ashes of his godfather. Gregor, who has nothing left for sentimentality, is supposed to fulfill his godfather's last wish and consign his ashes to the sea. After initial hesitation, he throws everything away and sets off.
On their journey through France, Spain and Portugal, Caroline and Gregor meet again and again. And as different as they are, they have one big thing in common: the search for their past, the truth and answers to the important questions in life.
